What is Okie Dokie Donuts? Based in Philadelphia, PA, Okie Dokie Donuts specializes in delicious, artisanal, small-batch donuts. Okie Dokie Donuts was started as a fun side project in 2012 by Carol Ha, as a way to spread some happiness with doughnuts that just happen to be gluten free. Since then, Okie Dokie has grown into a full-time business that provides donut catering services for events and offers retail to the public thorough weekly pop-ups at select venues throughout the Philadelphia area.

Who is Okie Dokie? Carol Ha is the owner and chef at Okie Dokie Donuts. She got her start in pastry working at the Stein Eriksen Lodge, located in Park City, UT, and since then has worked in kitchens all over Philadelphia, including La Colombe, Martha, the Dandelion, and the Walnut Street Café. In 2019, Ha decided to take on Okie Dokie full-time, expanding from a one woman operation to a duo—Bill Kelly joined as Okie Dokie’s joint-owner and operations manager (and head doughnut fryer).  

Where is Okie Dokie Donuts located?  Okie Dokie Donut’s operations are located in South Philadelphia, Pennsylvania.  

Do you have a storefront? Where can I get an Okie Dokie donut?  Currently, we prepare our donuts at a shared commercial kitchen space in South Philly. You can get our donuts at one of our weekend pop-ups, or by order for your next event. As our operations continue to grow, we are in search of our dream storefront by 2020. 

Are all Okie Dokie donuts gluten-free?  Yes!  All our flavors are gluten-free. We use our own special mix of rice flour, tapioca starch, and potato starch.  

Are you sure they’re all gluten-free? They don’t taste gluten-free. Yes, and hooray! There’s no reason that gluten-free can’t be delicious!

I have Celiacs, can I eat your doughnuts? Short answer, we have a lot of customers with celiacs that say yes!  Long answer: everyone is different.  We take a lot of pre-cautions in our shared kitchen to ensure there is no cross-contamination, such as sanitizing all workspaces, using GF dedicated equipment, and making sure we are the only ones working in the kitchen that day. But it is not a GF space. So please go with your gut, and if it makes you nervous, we don’t encourage you to order. It’s okay! Your health is important to us at Okie Dokie Donuts.  

Are your doughnuts dairy-free as well? Or vegan? All our doughnuts contain dairy and eggs. We are currently working on a vegan version, and hope to have it available soon!

I’m allergic to nuts!  Do you use nuts? In general, we don’t use peanuts, tree nuts, or nut flours. Occasionally, we will garnish a flavor with peanuts or tree nuts, but we will always indicate in the flavor name if they are present.  Our flavors change monthly, so if you have a specific allergy, please contact us at Okie Dokie and we can check for you.

I don’t live in Philadelphia! Can you ship your doughnuts to me? Okie Dokie Donuts makes everything fresh to order and does not use any preservatives—therefore shipping is not a viable option. Trying to ship them overnight is expensive, and the quality won’t be what you paid for.  Philly is a nice place to visit though!

What’s the best way to store my Okie Dokie donuts? An Airtight container or plastic wrap, and freeze. To defrost, let them sit room temperature for about 20-30 minutes. We do not recommend refrigerating your Okie Dokie Donuts. 

Is it DOUGHNUT or DONUT?  It’s both! Use whichever one you want—you do you, boo boo.
